Friend of God is a position attainable by all of us. In scripture Moses and Abraham qualified, and the apostles were called friends by Jesus.
Benefits of the Friend of God
- The friend of God speaks face-to-face and can see God.
- Ex 33:11 “And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.”
- God manifests himself to his friends.
- God shares without restraint to his friends.
- John 15:15 “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”
- Gen 18:17 “And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;”
- The friend of God is imputed righteousness.
- James 2:23 “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.”
- The friend of God can change God’s mind.
- Gen 18:22-24 “And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?”
- Ex 32:11-12 “And Moses besought the Lord his God, and said, Lord, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.”
- God remembers and backs up his friends.

Qualifications of the Friend of God
- The friend of God believes God.
- James 2:23 “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.”
- The friend of God loves God and obeys his commandments.
- Prov 17:17 “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
- John 15:14 “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
- John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
- The friend of God is willing to lay his life down for his friend.
- John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
- The friend of God is a closer relationship than being one of the brethren.
- Prov 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
- The friend of God is not friends with the world.
- James 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
- Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
- The friend of God has a pure heart (he sees God).
- Prov 22:11 “He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.”
- Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
Conclusion
Now that is the scripture but as far as experience when you are friend of God you feel a deep love and affection for God. You have the heart that will lay your life down for your friend. You care for his affairs, and He cares for yours. This is a two-way relationship. One can get caught up in all the details, but that is the heart of it. You agree and walk together.
